Digital Assets Directive for YOURNAME --------------------------------------------- DATE Upon my death, please do the following with my computer, phone, digital assets, and online assets: - I assume the executor of my will is going to notify my banks and retirement accounts of my death, and take possession of those accounts. I assume either the executor will be given online access by the banks etc, or online access will be disabled by the banks etc. There may be some auto-pays (small monthly amounts taken out) and "financial connectors" (PayPal, Privacy.com, Transferwise) connected to my BANKNAME savings account. Will the bank freeze digital access to the account so those transactions and connections are dropped ? Or maybe the bank can put a block on just PayPal transactions, which should be sufficient. - I wish to have my domain DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD and web site SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS maintained active and intact for the indefinite future. This should cost approximately $50/year. I will set aside some money to finance that, in my will. Perhaps someone from the younger generation, such as one of JJJJJJJJJJJJ's children, will do it. No changes or maintenance should be needed, just paying the annual fees, maybe on auto-renew and auto-pay. I will arrange to assign people as co-owners of those accounts, or give the login information to people in advance. Only two accounts are involved: the domain registrar (RRRRRRRRRRRRR) and the site-hosting service (HHHHHHHHHHH). It might be best to just change the email address and phone number on each account to that of the new owner, without telling the service that I have died and ownership has changed. - I wish to have all other online accounts and assets abandoned, without notifying the services of my death. This includes social media accounts, cloud backup accounts, email accounts, online store accounts, financial connector accounts (PayPal, Transferwise, Privacy.com, etc), online software repository accounts, etc. - A few backup devices are marked "Info From YOURNAME" and should be retained, and copies given to anyone who wants them, but especially AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA and BBBBBBBBBB. They contain family photos and family trees etc, plus copies of this document and some others. - The rest of my backup devices (external hard disks and USB flash drives, which are encrypted) are to be destroyed or reformatted. Do not just throw them away or give them away or sell them. Destroy or reformat first. Probably all you have to do is connect each drive to a laptop and format it. - The hard drive in my laptop (which is encrypted) is to be removed and destroyed, or reformatted. Do not just throw it away or give it away or sell it. Destroy or reformat first. Probably the easiest thing to do is just install Windows on the laptop. Maybe get a USB flash drive of 8 GB or so, attach it to a Windows laptop, and follow instructions at https://www.microsoft.com/es-es/software-download/windows10ISO Then take the USB drive to my EEEEEEEEEEEE laptop, attach it, and power on the laptop while holding down the F2 key (I think). When you get a menu, choose "boot from USB". Then follow the steps to install Windows. - My smartphone should have the SIM card removed and destroyed, and the phone factory-reset. To do this, maybe see "Method 2 - Performing a Recovery Reset" in https://www.wikihow.com/Reset-Your-Android-Phone - WIFE: remember that there is a password manager database on your laptop, containing the account information and passwords for the whole family. Run KeePass to open it. The password is your laptop's password typed twice. (A spare copy of the database is on the same pen-drive as this file.)
